So, I'm standing here in what used to be the Ashgrove electoral district, which was a pretty significant spot in Queensland politics. It was around for a long time, from 1960 all the way until 2017 when they got rid of it. You're basically in the northern suburbs of Brisbane right now, covering places like Alderley, Ashgrove, Enoggera, The Gap, and Newmarket.

What's really interesting is that this area also included the Enoggera Army Barracks and the Enoggera Reservoir, which is a state forest. Back in 2012, the LNP leader, Campbell Newman, actually won this seat, and then his party won the election, making him Premier. But then in 2015, Kate Jones, who had held the seat for Labor before him, took it back. That meant Newman lost his seat and the Premiership, becoming only the second Premier in Queensland history to be defeated in his own electorate. When they abolished Ashgrove in 2017, most of it became part of the Cooper electorate. So, a lot of history happened right here.
