Okay, so I'm standing here at 151–171 Roma Street, and if you came here before 2020, you would have seen the Brisbane Transit Centre. It was this big long-distance bus station, and honestly, a lot of people called it the ugliest building in Brisbane. It had three office towers, and they've all been demolished now.
It opened in 1986, right between the Queensland Police Service headquarters and Roma Street Parkland. There were shops, cafes, restaurants, and even a Travelodge Hotel that opened the same year, sitting right above the station. You could get in from Roma Street or from the parkland.
The coach terminal itself was on the top floor, and it was a hub for services like Crisps Coaches, Greyhound, Murrays, NSW TrainLink, Premier Motor Service, and Bus Queensland, heading all over the place, even to Sydney and Cairns. The Roma Street railway station was accessible from the ground floor too, with long-distance trains and the XPT service to Sydney. Plus, Transport for Brisbane buses used the Roma Street busway station.
Everything here, including the East and West Towers and Hotel Jen, started being torn down in March 2018 to make way for the Cross River Rail platforms at Roma Street. They've since opened a new Brisbane Coach Terminal north of the station as a replacement.
