So, I'm standing here on the Jack Pesch Bridge, and it's pretty cool. This bridge is just for pedestrians and cyclists, which is nice. It crosses the Indooroopilly Reach of the Brisbane River, connecting Chelmer and Indooroopilly. You can see the Albert and Walter Taylor Bridges right next to it, which is a neat perspective.
The bridge is named after Jack Pesch, who was a cycling champion back in the 1930s. He later owned a bike shop in Petrie Terrace, selling and servicing his own 'Rocket' cycles until the mid-1990s. This bridge was opened on October 2, 1998, by the Queensland Minister for Transport, Steve Bredhauer, and Brisbane's Lord Mayor, Jim Soorley. Apparently, the only time any vehicles other than bikes or pedestrians use it is for emergency vehicles during work on the Walter Taylor Bridge, and even then, they clear everyone else off first. It's a peaceful spot for a walk or a ride.
