Discovery of Honorah Rieper's Body

The body of a middle-aged woman was found in a hollow in Victoria Park, below the tearooms, around 4:00 pm on June 22, 1954. The caretaker at Victoria Park found her body and reported the discovery to the police. The woman was Honora Mary Parker, 45 years old, from 31 Gloucester Street. An arrest was made, and a murder charge was preferred in the Magistrate’s Court the following morning.

Pauline Parker, who was 16, and Juliet Hulme, 15, were found guilty of killing Honora Mary Parker. They used a brick in a sock. The murder happened on June 22, 1954. The defense argued that the girls were not guilty due to insanity, but the jury rejected this plea. The movie "Heavenly Creatures," which is about this murder, was released 20 years ago.
