The Brisbane Arts Theatre on Petrie Terrace is considered Queensland's most-haunted site. The Queensland Paranormal Society listed it as number one on their top ten most-haunted locations, especially because of the ghost of founder Jean Trundle. She's said to haunt the floorboards and backstage.
Shane Townsend, from the Paranormal Society, mentioned that every investigation here has yielded similar findings from different groups and footage. Alex Lanham, the theatre's president, wasn't superstitious until he started working here. He recounted an experience from 1990 during a dress rehearsal when he saw a figure on the balcony making noise. After complaining to the stage manager, he learned everyone was backstage, and the chair he pointed to was "Jean's chair." That's how he first heard about her.
Jean Trundle founded this theatre with her husband, Vic Hardgraves, in 1936. She was described as flamboyant and eccentric and died on July 23, 1965, at Ashgrove, after which she was cremated. Lanham's theory about why Jean might still be here is that her husband's ashes are buried in one of the garden boxes upstairs.
